What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda, considered the oldest healing science, translates to “The Science of Life” in Sanskrit.
Originating over 5,000 years ago in the ancient Vedic culture of India, Ayurveda is often referred to as the “Mother of All Healing.” Many modern natural healing systems in the West trace their roots to Ayurvedic principles.
Maintaining Balance & Health
Ayurveda is a holistic science of life that emphasizes prevention and the maintenance of health through lifestyle, right thinking, diet, and the use of herbs.
By practicing Ayurvedic principles, one learns how to create and sustain balance in the body, mind, and awareness, tailored to an individual’s unique constitution. If someone is out of balance, Ayurveda offers guidance on how to make lifestyle changes that restore and maintain harmony.
Unlike allopathic medicine, which often treats symptoms, Ayurveda views each individual as unique, recognizing that everyone has distinct needs. There is no “one size fits all.” Whether it’s diet or lifestyle choices, what works for one person may not work for another. Ayurveda looks at the individual holistically, considering their unique combination of physical, mental, and emotional traits—known as their constitution. This constitution is determined at conception and remains the same throughout one’s life.
Many factors, both internal and external, can influence the balance of one’s constitution. These include emotional and physical stress, diet, seasonal changes, physical trauma, and relationships.
Once these influences are acknowledged, individuals can feel empowered to take control of their health and well-being, making informed choices to sustain the balance of their original constitution.
As Dr. Lad wisely said:
"Balance is the natural order; imbalance is disorder. Health is order; disease is disorder. Within the body, there is a constant interaction between order and disorder. When one understands the nature and structure of disorder, one can re-establish order."
